Business Investment
Philosophy

Luna was founded as a gaming company with the goal of building, developing, financing, and managing casino projects throughout the United States. That Luna philosophy still exists today; however, Luna’s business investments now reach far beyond gaming. Luna’s company principles recognize value in businesses as diverse as auto dealerships to cleaning products and from gold mines to vineyards. What does not change in any of Luna’s businesses is Luna’s adherence to the business fundamentals of sound corporate governance and oversight. Luna continues to seek out opportunities or business partners in small to medium sized companies needing additional capital or a seasoned financial counselor to identify and capture the locked business value.

Mission Statement

Luna Entertainment will be a dynamic and aggressive company that is able to effectively manage existing businesses while at the same time evaluating and investing in new opportunities. Luna’s business ownership and investment philosophy will include both a requirement that existing business and new investments produce an acceptable level of return on investment but also that those existing businesses remain interesting and new investments present a challenge. In short, Luna’s existing businesses and new investments will be fun.

Tom Celani

Tom Celani
Tom’s story began at a young age as the son of an Italian immigrant. Through his father’s teachings and commendable values, Tom learned the principles of hard work at a young age when he worked long hours with his father at the family beer distributorship in downtown Detroit. Tom grew to understand what it took to keep a business going, and how to achieve success.

At the age of 26, Tom became the President of Action Distributing Company when his father unexpectedly passed away. Tom set forth the lessons he learned throughout his youth and used them to grow Action Distributing Company into one of the largest Miller distributors in the country, selling more than 5,000,000 cases of product annually. In 1988, Tom founded Sodak Gaming, Inc. and expanded it from a small company that distributed gaming devices to Native American casinos nationally, into a company with $150 million dollars in annual sales. Sodak Gaming, Inc. went on to be a publicly traded company on the Nasdaq. He then developed, financed and managed the Little River Casino Resort for the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians in 1995.

In 1996, Tom funded and ran the state-wide voter referendum which led to casino gaming in Detroit wherein he was then selected as one of the three companies to receive a casino license. Subsequently, Tom partnered with Mandalay Resort Group to build Motor City Casino which opened to the public in December of 1999, and then later formed Luna Entertainment. Tom has been licensed in over 30 jurisdictions in this country for gaming, including Nevada. He also owned the Cal Neva casino on Lake Tahoe that was previously owned by Frank Sinatra. Tom acquired a Tuscan-style vineyard in 2005 which is now called Celani Family Vineyard.

As Tom has tackled many business ventures and succeeded, when the Cannabis industry presented itself in the United States, he also took that on. He made it his mission to take a 20-billion-dollar underground industry in this country, and helped facilitate its legalization. With this, Tom began High Life Farms, a Cannabis business he created with his sons Vinnie and Ben Celani.

In addition to his business activities, Tom is highly active in the philanthropic community in Michigan. Most notably, Tom and his wife Vicki were awarded the 2011 Charitable Foundation of the Year award for Michigan. They founded the Celani Charitable Foundation in 2000, which is dedicated to addressing the needs of youth and fighting hunger. The foundation serves the underprivileged and less fortunate families in Detroit and the surrounding metropolitan area. Those events include Cars & Cigars, and Hunger Free in the D, and have raised over $10,400,000 in charitable donations combined.

Philanthropy

Luna’s founder, Tom Celani, began his philanthropic involvement in the local community more than 25 years ago when he became a member of the board of the Hearts of Livonia charity. Even then, Tom understood the importance of philanthropy and giving back to the community. Similarly to his business, Tom’s philanthropic involvement in the community has expanded during the last 25 years. Tom and his wife Vicki contribute to the community both by serving on boards of various charities and foundations as well as through the Celani Charitable Foundation (CCF).

In 2011, the Celani Charitable Foundation was recognized in the Detroit metropolitan area as being Foundation of the Year for its ongoing contributions to the community. They founded the Celani Charitable Foundation (“CFF”) in 2000, a 501(c) (3) charity dedicated to addressing the needs of youth and fighting hunger. CFF started the Cars and Cigars Smoke Detroit event in June of 2014 and then the Hunger Free In the D telethon in November of 2014. The foundation serves the underprivileged and less fortunate families in Detroit and the surrounding metropolitan area. Those events include Cars & Cigars, and Hunger Free in the D, and have raised over $10,400,000 in charitable donations combined. For more information about CFF’s charitable events, visit celanifamilyfoundation.com.

Tom and Vicki’s philanthropic involvement includes Hearts of Livonia where Tom is President; CARE House of Oakland County, where Vicki has served as a member of the board; Beaumont Health Systems where Tom is a board member and where the Celani Charitable Foundation has commissioned a campaign to develop a new surgery unit; College for Creative Studies in Detroit; Central Michigan University where the Celani Charitable Foundation has donated the funds necessary to support a new dormitory; and St. Mary Mercy Hospital in Livonia, Michigan.
